I had my job interview with the Boy Scouts of America. I like this place. I mean I REALLY like that atmosphere, the way people smiles and just the general feel of the place.
I got there about 3 minutes before my interview. Usually I try to get their earlier that that but right now I'm at the mercy of the Orange County bus system. I got there and I spent about 20 minutes chatting with a nice lady about Kauai and Europe. Funny how people will open up to you when you tell them you're from Kauai or any of the Hawaiian island.
After chatting for a bit the lady called me in. She said she does a very informal interview. I told her I do the same. (I used to interview people at the Welfare office and recently in my other jobs). My duties would be to update a 300 page website (groan), write press releases, work with other people at fundraising events and be someones 'right hand'. We had a nice interview. I interrupted a few times but she seemed ok with it. I wanted to make sure she knew I had the skills. When she mentioned the fundraising part I responded with: "I have experience in that. We did a fund raising drive for people on Meth in Kauai." I gave her some stats and she seemed impressed. She wanted to know about my writing ability. I told her: "I wrote for a national newsletter when I worked at a union. I know to write at a 5th grade reading ability since that's what the New York Times and other major newspapers use." She nodded her head.
So things went well and she said she'll let me know in about three weeks. This is a job I really want. It's about 2,000 less than the other jobs I was looking at but it's so convenient to get to and it's a happy environment. I'd give up money to work at a job I love. Besides, it's the Boy Scouts of America. How much more American can you get? =) If I have too, I'll work temp work for a bit until I get a call. I feel like rolling the dice with this one and making sure I'm around to accept a job offer. If I'm working at a job with a somewhat decent wage then I'm not hurting for money. I have monies from my vacation sales to cover up any slack.
